Climb Every Mountain

Wishmountain-Radio EP

wishmountain-radio ep

Not only was the first track of this E.P. 10 years ahead of the minimal techno scene’s explosion, it is still way better than most of the stuff I hear out today. This was also one of the first techno/house records Davis n’ Chaz ever bought. Back when we were so broke we still pooled our records. Enjoy this classic minimal tech masterpiece from a young Mathew Herbert.

The flip side has to be one of the best ambient/house joints ever.  This one should be familiar to those of you who were lucky enough to get copies of some  secret mix tapes from us in the later nineties, or catch some late-night mix sessions live.  Now you don’t have to keep wishing that the tapes hadn’t disintegrated and the e pills wore off!

more research into Herbert’s Wishmountain alias reveals that it was a structural sound project made during his time in college studying theater. From the objects which make the tittle of the tracks a total of 8 sounds where made and then sequenced to make the tracks. This E.P. represents the first of the tracks to be signed to a label. In this case Global Communication’s Label Evolution in 1996. This was the first of only two singles to be released under the name wishmountain before the name was abandoned for the alias’ Radio Boy and Dr. Rockit before Herbert moved on to using his real name and making crappy wannabe bossa nova. viva structuralism. viva alias’

there’s a sound that reminds me of the beginning of a traditional Mexica ceremony when the conch is blown.
